SAMARITAN INN
The Association’s Multifamily Builders Council holds a sell-out golf tournament each year to raise funds for Samaritan Inn. The council has donated more than $128,000 for the shelter over the past 25 years. Much more than simply a homeless shelter, the Samaritan Inn is a comprehensive program for the temporarily homeless. Originally a nursing home that was converted to a jail, in 2004 Samaritan Inn received a $1.25 million renovation spearheaded by the Multifamily Builders Council. The shelter’s mission is to help willing people gain dignity and independence, moving families from a survival perspective to experiencing health growth, normalcy, and security in their everyday lives.
In addition to the cash donation, in December 2022 the MFBC waived admission fees to its annual holiday party, asking guests to bring a new, unwrapped toy instead. Well over 100 toys were collected for donation to Samaritan Inn’s Santa Workshop, a program that allows disadvantaged parents to provide gifts for their children at Christmas.
