3 Key Tips to Achieve Your Dream Remodel

By Joseph Tsedaka of Joseph & Berry Luxury Remodeling

People underestimate what a difference good design can make. Good design can create a lot of great moments in someone’s life.

Maybe you’re pining for a spa-like bathroom with a deep tub, or you can already envision your sparkling new chef’s kitchen. Remodeling can provide you with your ultimate dream home — given that you take a practical approach to your project and understand the overall process. Redoing your home isn’t all happy-happy, joy-joy all the time.  There are always unexpected bumps in the road, but if you’re working with someone who really cares, you’ll end up happy.

Ready to realize the vision of your ideal home? Consider these tips.

1. Establish the Right Relationships
Really take the time to find the right person to take on your remodel. It’s almost like a marriage: You want to choose someone you feel comfortable with. Prioritize someone who returns your calls within 24 hours and asks questions about your needs and wishes — and speak with their current clients. Find out how they are enjoying the experience.

For example, our team took down a wall and widened the kitchen in a recent project. The homeowners wanted an open space, but they weren’t happy with the loss of their walk-in pantry. As a result, we figured out a storage solution based on wall drawers and pull systems that keeps the kitchen airy while still providing a place to stash spices and other items.

2. Set Clear Priorities
Tell your contractor what’s important to you, then make sure you’re on the same page and know exactly what you’re going to get. Communication is key.

Homeowners of a Denton County home stressed that they wanted a spa sanctuary that fit their very tall frames. We measured the couple, making sure all the faucets and sprayers in the shower complemented their heights. Even the bench was customized to exactly how the homeowners sit and their stature.

3. Be Open to New Ideas
Keep in mind that your coveted look or a particular project element  might not be the right thing for the property. Let your designer or contractor guide you, and consider other options based on their advice.

At this Preston Hollow home, the owners wanted a very light, bright kitchen infused with some warmth. Though they initially balked at the idea to introduce reclaimed barn wood as the backsplash, they ended up being delighted at how he gave them Texas in a transitional house. They just had to trust me.
